Tesla’s next electric sedan to be called Model III

Tesla is currently working on a new model, a sedan below its Model S, but while the name of Model E was expected, eventually, the brand’s next electric car will be called Model 3 or Model III

These are the words of Elon Musk - while current and future models are opting for the letter with the Model S standing for sedan and Model X for SUV / Crossover, the name of Model E was planned for this new midsize sedan, but Ford did not see it this way!

“We were going to call it model E for a while and then Ford sued us saying it wanted to use the Model E”
“The new model is going to be called Model III, we’ll have three bars to represent it”

Therefore, this is officially the name of Tesla Model III that will be given to the Tesla’s future electric sedan, a name that puts it as an all named rival to the BMW 3 Series.

Some figures on the Tesla Model III

About 20% more compact than the Model S, the Model III will be offered from $ 35,000 - so expect slightly more than € 30,000 in Europe
Its official reveal is expected in 2016 with a launch in 2017, it will then be the only 100% electric sedan in this price range.
