Korando C EV-R: first hybrid model for Ssangyong

After the release of an “efficient” version earlier this year called the Korando e3 - Low Emission: a 2.0l diesel engine of 149hp emitting respectively 147 and 157g/km in 2WD or 4WD, Ssangyong offers a real green alternative!

The Korean manufacturer just introduced its first electrified model, with the success experienced by the Korando SUV, especially in Europe, a more innovative version in line with the competition in terms of powertrain seemed to be a logical continuation!

Presented at the 2013 ENVEX show in Seoul mid-June, it is precisely an electric version of Ssangyong’s crossover equipped with a range extender (like the Chevrolet Volt), a model developed with the support of the Ministry of Environment.

The 100kW electric motor drives the wheels up to a maximum speed of 150kph thanks to a 16kWh battery. Then a 37kW gasoline generator (architecture and emissions undisclosed) takes over to provide up to 500 km of range.

With this demonstrator of range-extender crossover, Ssangyong answers to the hybrid models offered by its local competitors Hyundai and Kia, and likely announces a launch soon!
