Mitsubishi will not put one (as announced early March) but two electric cars on the starting line of the 2012 Pikes Peak hill climb, a production car the “i” and a much more sporty prototype called “i-MiEV Evolution”.
Mitsubishi targets two records with these vehicles, series electric cars and the one set by the Nissan Leaf
For the EVO the challenge will be more tricky, indeed, it will have to equal the Yokohama HER-02
and not to be overtaken on the finish line by the TeamAPEV
Therefore Mitsubishi saw the big picture, the i-MiEV EVO is based on a tubular chassis and features four-wheel drive.
Derived from standard components it uses three motors developing 80kW each for a total output of 240kW (322hp), a motor is placed on the front axle, two on the rear axle. To power the beast to the top of the mountain, a 35kWh battery pack has been integrated.
For the i, the transformation is limited to a more aerodynamic front bumper and bodywork, a roll cage and decals.
